Failure or success, which path will the gifted child follow?

When it comes to children with high intellectual potential, the list of problems seems very long. And how to define a "failure" for these children out of the ordinary.

The reality is much more pleasant to live for the majority and many studies have shown it. Nicolas Gauvrit and Eva Guez’s has made the balance.

What does a "failure" mean?


We can determine that the most obvious is the lack of academic success, that is, in a classic school environment.

Now we know, for those who are interested in the subject, that an AC child does not have the same way of reasoning. It cannot easily enter a school "preformed mold". It may not bloom in it. This does not mean that you do not acquire knowledge, simply that the system does not suit you. It can be argued that it is a failure of school integration, but not of the child.

Only the feeling of failure is present because it does not follow the normal school trajectory. But the child can experience a school failure, and excel in another field.... sports or artistic. All ambiguity is there.


What does "success" mean?


Contrary to the above, we more quickly recognize a success. This becomes evident when a child surpasses his peers of the same age. Social networks regularly discover children who demonstrate their talents in various fields.

And each of them is not necessarily the best of its kind. They are multiple intelligences.

When the child learns to master social relationships in the school environment, he or she can become the best in his or her class, or even at school. We know about them.

When we read an article about children with high intellectual abilities, there are always problems, difficulties for these children. It’s like being smart becomes a difficulty.

We have to erase that negative vision. Of all times, long before the modern appearance of high capacities, intelligent people succeed, and in all fields. The number of scientists, researchers, inventors show that they naturally have a professional or personal success. And you can’t pretend that the educational systems of ancient times are really permissive. The school was strict and hard for children. The kids are adjusting.


For my part, with my daughter, I am not demanding with her. She follows her classes and feels good. She will face throughout the possible tests. I trust her abilities, but I’m always willing to support her.
