WHY A CUMANIN TES?

May be the start of high capacity detection

Origin of Tes

Neuropsychological maturity is defined as the level of organization and maturational development that allows the development of cognitive and behavioral functions according to the chronological age of the subject (Portellano, Mateos & MartĆnez, 2000). In this development process, the maturation of the central nervous system requires a more complex sequence of processes than other nervous structures, making this system particularly vulnerable to environmental influences (Rodier, 1994, 2004, in Dietrich et al., 2005) , mainly during preschool and school age, generating through the interaction between the environment and the nervous system changes at a functional and structural level (Huttenlocher & Dabholkar, 1997; Korkman, 2001), such as the acquisition of cognitive skills basic skills and knowledge of culture, in addition to internalizing the behavioral patterns, motives and values of a particular sociocultural context (Akhutina, Vygotsky & Luria, 2002; Korkman, 2001; Luria, 1984; MartĆnez, 1999; Yygotsky, 1981).

Aim

In a sample of 243 infants (119 boys and 124 girls), aged between 36 and 72 months, belonging to public and private institutions, the post-adaptation and normalization psychometric properties of the CUMANIN Infant Neuropsychological Maturity Questionnaire were evaluated. The results found allow us to indicate that the instrument has good internal consistency and is capable of discriminating between age ranges, obtaining higher yields as age advances. No differences were found in scores by sex. Factors such as socioeconomic level and type of educational institution attended by the toddler determined differences in the results obtained. It is concluded that the CUMANIN Infant Neuropsychological Maturity Questionnaire is a valid and reliable instrument for the evaluation of the neuropsychological maturity construct in the preschool population.

But it can detect an outstanding aptitude.

How is the test performed

The Infant Neuropsychological Maturity Questionnaire - CUMANIN is made up of 83 items grouped into 13 sub-scales, each item is valued as a hit (1) or error (0), also collecting information regarding hand, eye and foot laterality. The 8 main scales are: Psychomotor, Articulatory Language, Comprehensive Language, Expressive Language, Spatial Structuring, Visual perception, Memory and Rhythm.

  • The Psychomotor Scale (11 items) , made up of seven tasks, allows a maximum of 12 points with tasks such as walking on one foot, touching the nose with the finger or walking in balance.

  • The Articulatory Language scale (15 items) consists of the repetition of 15 words of increasing articulatory difficulty.

  • The Expressive Language Scale (4 items) consists of the repetition of four phrases of increasing difficulty.

  • The Comprehensive Language Scale (9 items) consists of reading a text to the child and asking nine questions about its content.

  • The Spatial Structuring Scale (15 items) is made up of 15 tasks that must be performed with psychomotor responses and motor graphs.

  • The Viso Perception Scale (15 items) consists of the reproduction of 15 geometric models of increasing complexity.

  • The Iconic Memory Scale consists of the visual presentation of a sheet with engravings of simple objects, which must be memorized by the examinee.

  • The Rhythm Scale (7 items) consists of the reproduction of 7 rhythmic series with a gradual increase in difficulty, which are presented aurally by the examiner.

The instrument also has 5 additional scales, which are not part of the set designed to measure neuropsychological development. Two of them evaluate the areas of Attention and Verbal Fluency , and from the age of 5 (60 months), two written language scales can be applied: Reading and Writing .

Each scale allows to record scores whose interpretation is made by converting these raw scores into centile scales, which are differentiated into 5 age groups in months. Also allowing to obtain a profile of results.

The total score ( Global Development ), formed by the 83 items of the 8 main scales, is interpreted in centiles, and from this an index can be obtained in terms of Development Quotient ( CD ). The test also allows obtaining scores and percentiles of the subject's Verbal Development and Non-verbal Development, which are obtained from the 8 main scales.

Conclusion

Finally, the above findings allow us to conclude that the Infant Neuropsychological Maturity Questionnaire is a valid and reliable instrument for evaluating the one-dimensional construct of neuropsychological development, being capable of discriminating between age ranges, obtaining higher yields as age progresses, due to the consolidation of the higher functions of the nervous system and its neurological support.

The test result may indicate a result greater than the child's chronological age. This indication can come in as a high-capacity detection because it takes into account the aspects of language development and reading. The psychologist must take care of this possibility and make a proposal for the detection of IQ, or take our test endorsed by psychologists (Sign up to get the free test)
